Matsushima is a group of islands in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. There are 260 tiny islands covered in pines (matsu) and hence the name Matsushima. Matsushima is ranked as one of the Three Views of Japan. Tourists can view the islands from up close on cruise boats. Matsushima was hit by the earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011. But Matsushima escaped from major damages because of bay. Most tourist attractions, shops and hotels reopened within a few weeks or months of the earthquake. There are many sightseeing operators are operating from Matsushima port for sightseeing. the sightseeing varying from 40 minutes to 2 hour duration. Matsushima Located half an hour outside of Sendai and connected by trains from Sendai.
